I’m Taken Away by This Book

Today’s book blog is on Taken by Erin Bowman, it’s one of my favorite books by far. Basically it falls under the genre of young adult, science fiction, and adventure fiction. The main character is Gray who’s 17 and he has an older brother who shares the same birthday but they were born on separate years. Blaine his older brother is older by a year and turns 18 in the first chapter. In the book any male who turns 18 is taken away by a council called the heist, which means they are never to be seen or heard from ever again.
In this chapter the town is prepping for the ceremony since every 18 year old male gets taken away on their birthday. No one has ever escaped the heist and no matter what they try they never will. After the whole incident where Blaine gets taken away, very interesting events occur. Gray discovers more about himself which is a huge a shock that’s mentioned pretty early in the book.
In the book every male gets assigned to a woman where they can either be accepted or rejected. A crazy fact is that since the guys only get a limited amount of time they usually get married and have kids before they turn 18. Now since Gray’s birthday was a year after Blaine’s he was assigned to a girl named Emma. This definitely has to be one of my favorite parts of the book. Gray has practically had a crush on Emma ever since they were younger but Emma had a crush on Blaine which made things complicated. She simply stated that Gray is different from Blaine which is why she possibly couldn’t like him.
After Gray finds out he was assigned to Emma he went to go visit her at a clinic she worked at since her mom ran the clinic. Gray only mentions that they should try and become closer friends because he had a very strong feeling that Emma was going to reject him. They end up discovering the shocking news together with sets them out on an adventure. This is definitely a book I would recommend because it takes you through a roller coaster of emotions.
One of my all time favorite moments is when Gray and Emma are just hanging out with each other and they basically go into a conversation about life. Emma begins to realize how Gray was different than Blaine, except this time in a good way. She learns that both of them actually don’t just want to be assigned to other people, but simply want to fall in love with someone and create a life without force. Just talking about this part makes my heart flutter because it shows how there’s more than to what meets the eye. Despite me babbling on about the romance the action is actually very intense so I believe if you’re looking for a book with lots of action then I would definitely consider checking this book out.
