I’m Taken Away by This Book

Image
I’m Taken Away by This Book Today’s book blog is on Taken by Erin Bowman, it’s one of my favorite books by far. Basically it falls under the genre of young adult, science fiction, and adventure fiction. The main character is Gray who’s 17 and he has an older brother who shares the same birthday but they were born on separate years. Blaine his older brother is older by a year and turns 18 in the first chapter. In the book any male who turns 18 is taken away by a council called the heist, which means they are never to be seen or heard from ever again.  In this chapter the town is prepping for the ceremony since every 18 year old male gets taken away on their birthday. No one has ever escaped the heist and no matter what they try they never will. After the whole incident where Blaine gets taken away, very interesting events occur. Gray discovers more about himself which is a huge a shock that’s mentioned pretty early in the book. In the book every male gets assigned to a w...

SOL Letter

Image
Letter  There’s a saying although I don’t know who said it, it struck me. “Letters are among the most significant memorial a person can leave behind them.”. In this case it is very true, in fact multiple students my age are probably waiting for a very important letter, it’s either a letter of rejection or a letter of achievement. Highschool options are debatable for me as of now, I’m undecided and don’t know what to do. I know I talk about art and say it’s amazing, and trust me it is, but is it something I want to do? Right in this very moment I’d say no. I was hoping I wouldn’t make it into the academy so I have an excuse not to go. Most people tell me to shadow a year and see what it’s like, sounds great right? Well I mean if I don’t like it I just return to to another school right? It’s not as simple as it seems, in fact it’s far from simple. If I return to the school then I have to go to regular classes rather than honors or AP, I basically fall behind. Overall I j...

SOL Drawing

Image
SOL Drawing  The picture  The drawing  Above is an oil pastel art piece that I completed on the 17th of February, it’s a [ modified ] drawing of someone who is special to me. The words on the bottom are “He is drawn by the noise, walking towards it.”. This drawing was very accomplishing because I had tried drawing other photos of him which ended up in a complete distaster. Since I was looking at the photo I figured since I don’t really know what to draw I would draw this, I also chose this because it would allow me to finally use my oil pastels.  In case you don’t know me I don’t really use color in any of my drawings, but I figured that color isn’t so bad. I really like working with bright and neon colors, colors that are out of the ordinary. Working with oil pastels is not extactly the easiest thing, I mean it looks easy but trust me it’s not. It pretty much gets everywhere, and warning NEVER EVER STEP ON AN OIL PASTEL!! This tip will definitel...

SOL Graduation Pictures are Right around the Corner

Image
Graduation Pictures are right around the Corner I know that graduation from middle school and heading on to high school is fun, especially when you applied to a private school, right? I know this is such a cliché thing to say but ... I am not ready to go to highschool. I’m not going to drop out so don’t worry, it’s just that a I’m scared of what the future may hold. I applied to an art school and made my parents pay plenty of money for application and art supplies as well as my teachers fill out recommendation letters [more like recommendation essays]. I feel bad about wasting their time because I don’t even know if I want to go. So I am definitely having second thoughts.

SOL SHADOW DAY

Image
3 Hours On February 6th I went to shadow at an art academy. I applied for visual arts, therefore I was standing there in the room surrounded by juniors who were working on their masterpieces. I had to stand there look in the mirror and draw a self portrait. It was already a challenge but what made it even more challenging was that I had to draw for 3 hours with a 15 minute break in the middle. But really the scary part was that I was in a room full of juniors so it was a little intimidating but I ended up feeling comfortable with their presence. The self portrait was drawn from charcoal and there was an eraser and kneaded eraser which was entirely covered in charcoal since it goes everywhere. I was thankful that I wore black because if I didn’t then I would have stained by clothing. Throughout the three hour self-portrait challenge I ended up having fun and time went by fast. In the end I wished I did better on my drawing but then again it was absolutely a great experience and I...

A story of Young Love

Image
A story of Young Love      Today I’m going to be talking about a story full of young love, it’s called “Romiette and Julio”, it falls in the genres young adult, fiction, and romance. If you closely observe the title it sounds like “ Romeo and Juliet”. This book talks about two 16 year olds Romiette Capelle and Julio Montague, they both come from different backgrounds but end up falling for each other. Romiette is a very strong and independent woman, she doesn’t believe in dating guys or that any guy from where she is, is attractive. Eventually when a new boy comes into town it changes her whole perspective, that new boy is Julio. Julio just moved from Texas where he would describe it as a colorful and lively place, in contrast to where he is now which is dull and gray. When they meet it’s like love at first sight, nothing could possibly destroy these lovebirds.       Then again love isn’t perfect, within love there are compilations and tough obs...

Grow

Image
Grow Grow is a word I choose to live by this year. Grow for me means to be the best version of myself. This word connects to my life because it represents how I want to be. I want to grow my confidence, generosity, and maturity. The definition of grow is to become larger or greater over a period of time. Increasing my confidence, generosity, and maturity will help me achieve the best version of myself. Being the best version of myself will make me feel good because change is apart of New Years, starting off on a different note. If I am able to start off on this note and continue to live throughout the year listening to that word than I will be very proud of myself. I also chose this word because it’s challenging for me. Sharing my ideas and thoughts are not something that I can develop overnight, and grow means to become greater over a period of time which perfectly represents what I want the New Year to look like.
