A story of Young Love

A story of Young Love

Today I’m going to be talking about a story full of young love, it’s called “Romiette and Julio”, it falls in the genres young adult, fiction, and romance. If you closely observe the title it sounds like “ Romeo and Juliet”. This book talks about two 16 year olds Romiette Capelle and Julio Montague, they both come from different backgrounds but end up falling for each other. Romiette is a very strong and independent woman, she doesn’t believe in dating guys or that any guy from where she is, is attractive. Eventually when a new boy comes into town it changes her whole perspective, that new boy is Julio. Julio just moved from Texas where he would describe it as a colorful and lively place, in contrast to where he is now which is dull and gray. When they meet it’s like love at first sight, nothing could possibly destroy these lovebirds.
Then again love isn’t perfect, within love there are compilations and tough obstacles. Unfortunately for these two that complication has gangs involved. One main reason Julio moved from Texas was because there was a really bad incident that occurred in which people were harmed by a gang. Due to his father not wanting any harm towards their way the family moved to Ohio. His family felt great to be away from the gangs and be safe in their new life, well at least they thought they did. The gang there in Ohio felt that Romiette and Julio should not date because of their race, Romiette’s African–American while Julio is Mexican-American. Therefore the gang threatened them by saying they were going to take action if the both of them still saw each other.
Throughout the book you learn about their chemistry each day. Even though they’re both young they already developed very strong feelings towards each. My favorite part of the story is when Romiette’s friend Destiny is first intoduced. Mostly when friends are introduced in books they start off by explaining the great characteristics of them and basically a small introduction. Meanwhile in this story it starts off with Destiny asking for $44.99 for a scientific soul-mate system. Destiny is a very different and interesting friend, she follows her “magical” ability which mostly involves zodiac. To be quite honest I enjoy her character a lot because she brings in a lot of brightness and positivity, sort of like a happy virus. All in all I would definitely recommend this book.
